Biff hunched over so much that his emo hair draped completely over his face, which was kind of fortunate, because he didn't want anyone (if anyone came into his bedroom) to see him crying. It was like his emotional threshold had been lowered ... considerably. If this was how that Derek kid felt, no wonder the guy was a total wuss.
He reached up to wipe away his tears and that's when his cellphone rang. He picked it up, realizing that it was a different model, a cheaper model, and saw the number that was calling. He recognized it as the one belonging to one of his jock buddies Randy Goodman. But why didn't it just show up as RANDY, like it usually did? Were they no longer friends?
Biff quickly wiped away his tears and breathed in deeply. He wanted to make sure Randy didn't notice that he had been crying.
"Hello?" Biff asked, answering the phone.
"Biff?" It was Randy alright.
"Randy? What ... what is it?"
"Did you change too?" Randy asked, getting right to the point.
Biff's mood brightened a little. If other people had changed too, maybe his situation wouldn't be as bad as he thought. He certainly wouldn't have as much to feel embarrassed about.
"Yeah, I did. What ... what did you change into?" Biff asked.
"A fucking Goth freak, that's what. Man, this is some real twisted shit here. I'm just like that Trevor Blake freak from school. You know, the Goth freak that likes to wear those black skirts. I'm wearing one of those fucking things right now."
Biff remembered.
"What the fuck did you get stuck with?" Randy asked.
"I'm like that Derek kid."
"That emo fag? Oh man, that's pretty fucked up too. But at least you don't have to wear any fucking skirts."
Biff noticed something. Randy was using the word "fuck" way more than usual. He was about to comment on it, but then decided against it. Biff sniffed, still feeling sad about his situation. Both of their situations.
"Are you crying?" Randy asked over the phone.
"No," Biff said, maybe a little too forced.
There was a pause, then Randy said "I've called other people, you know. And they've all changed too." He then began to explain that almost all (but they could assume that it was actually every single one) of his jock buddies and most of the cheerleaders had changed. Mike Matthews was now a nerd, Chris Morgan and Danny Foster were now just average kids, Tom Welles was now geek, and Steve Farber was now a "fucking bible-thumper", as Randy put it. Randy was especially angry about that last one, because Steve was his closest friend. Then there were the cheerleaders. Tiffany Sanders was now a chubby dweeb and Melissa Smith and Jessica Davis were now just average girls. Amber Levine hadn't changed too much, as she was still "popular", but now it seemed that she had acquired Tiffany's reputation as a slut, something she was definitely not before. And then there was Sarah. Biff's attention peaked at this point. "She's a tomboy."
Biff thought he would be more disappointed about that than he was. Imagining Sarah trying to look more boyish actually kind of turned him on. But why? Why would ...
Suddenly, Biff's eyes went wide. Could it be that he was ... gay? He and all of his jock buddies always had a feeling that Derek Lettman liked other boys. Did this mean that Biff now liked other boys too? He felt a twinge of disgust in his gut, but it soon passed.
"Biff? Are you still there?" Randy asked.
"Yeah, I'm still here."
"I don't know if they canceled school yet, but after what happened to the town ..."
"The town?"
"Yeah, not only did all our friends change, but their parents did too. It looks like the entire town changed."
"But how?" Biff asked. "How could something like this happen?"
"Who the fuck knows?" Randy answered.
