Jon woke up, not noticing the change in the stone. But he did recall that he had the stone, so in a fit of laziness picked up it and wished he was dressed.
Or at least he tried to. What he ended up saying was "I wish I was dressed, but I could stop being dressed by standing on one foot and hopping."
"What in the...?" said Jon. "I wish I knew what was wrong with this stone..." He meant to end the wish there, but found himself adding the words "but I can still forget what is wrong with the stone if I use another wish."
He certainly hadn't meant to say that. In fact, it was very strange. But, at least, he did know what was wrong with the stone. A version of himself from the future had fixed her stone so that it forces the user to put in a reversal clause or some other way to change back. She then swapped it for Jon's stone. Wait a minute... She? No wonder. Somehow Jon had made a wish that turned him into a girl. She had then managed to change the past... but she herself couldn't change back. Jon wondered if her future even still existed or if it had all changed once she changed the past.
Whatever. The stone was working.
It was even safer... But there was a downside. There are wishes you don't want to reverse. Did he really need to add a clause so that every time he wished to know something, he could make himself forget it again? What if he became sick and wished himself to health... would he be forced to leave in a way to get sick again?
Jon put the stone in his pocket and went downstairs to get some breakfast.
The thumbtack that he had accidentally dropped the previous night was, however, still on the ground and Jon finally realized it was there.
Not by stepping on it, though. He noticed the tack in time, and didn't put his foot down on it, instead hopping to the side and nearly losing his balance. At that moment, his clothes all vanished, to reappear in his room.
