Much to Carter's surprise, the girls all rolled their eyes gave the boy a wide berth as they passed by.
Carter's smile faltered, but he recovered quickly. Approaching a statuesque blonde dressed like a flirty nurse, he put on his best grin. "Hey, nurse. Wanna give me a shot?"
She gave him a cold look. "In your dreams, jerk."
Dave watched this in shock. What was going on?
"What's going on?" Carter echoed his confusion as he returned to his side. "I thought they'd be all over us."
A sultry Cleopatra overheard his question and deigned to answer. "Seriously? You guys act like idiots at school, and you think you can just pick us up just because we're at a party? It's obvious you showed up just to ogle us, considering you didn't even bother to dress up. So, please, do us a favor and keep your lame pick-up lines to yourself. And if any real men arrive, let us know."
Carter reddened as the girl flounced away. "What the hell, you little bit-"
Dave clapped his hand over the other boy's mouth. "Don't mind him, ladies. Please, excuse us." With that, he hauled his buddy into a corner.
Carter wrenched off his hand. "What was that for!?"
Dave sighed. "I was afraid something would go screwy, but I didn't expect this. But don't forget we have the key to fixing all our problems right here." He held up his pendant.
Slowly, Carter's smile returned. "Oh, right. So what are you gonna wish?"
"Hm, well, I wish that all the sexy teen girls at this party will be attracted to us and will do whatever we say until they turn back."
"I like the sound of that," Carter grinned. "Let's try again."
So, they did. Much to their dismay, they met with the same frigid reception. Carter retreated to a corner to sulk while Dave stood in thought by the enormous snack table.
"Something's wrong," he muttered to himself, taking off the pendant and rubbing it as he spotted a nearby female vampire. "I wish that girl would take her top off." Nothing. "Is this thing broken?"
Suddenly, a voice called out. "Dave! Thanks for coming!"
Like the royalty she emulated in her costume, Rebecca Levitt effortlessly parted the crowd as she sashayed up to them, hands out in welcome and a genuine smile on her face. "I saw you come in after the raffle ended. Glad you could make it!"
Happy to have one girl being nice to him, Dave played the gentleman. Taking her hand, he made a show of giving it a kiss. "Hello-" He glanced at the banner on the opposite wall. "-uh, Becca. Yeah, we had to get here kinda late."
Giggling at his antics, Becca nodded with easy understanding. "Well, you missed some really good stuff. Jo over there won a trip to Hawaii." She indicated the pirate wench gushing over her prize with her friend as they wandered in their general direction. "It's a shame you couldn't be there to join in. I wish "
