Zoe's next words were interrupted by a hand snatching the pendant from her grasp. "Well, what've we got here?"
Both girls turned to see Dave Wilder and his pal, Carson Leese, standing over them. The two boys were the school's small-time troublemakers. While they lacked the social clout of guys like Biff, they still liked to throw their weight around when they could. Overall, Athena considered them little more than annoyances.
"So, the Goths brought a little magic necklace to school, huh?" Grinned Dave, swinging the pendant around. "I happened to overhear you guys talking. A wishing necklace? What, are you gonna wish to not be freaks?"

Athena pulled her back. She knew the pendant was a fake, and she did not want her friend to get into trouble over it. "Just give it back, Dave," she said evenly. "You look silly carrying a piece of girl's jewelry, and you don't believe in magic. So it won't do you any good, anyway."
