Jon walked down the steps and put an arm around Karyn. The way Jon's hair fell across his face made him look attractive to Zoe, as did all of his black makeup and piercings. But how did all of this happen?
"What's going on? Why are you all dressed like that?" Zoe asked.
"Because we're Goths," her mom answered, as if it was obvious. Zoe turned around when she spoke and was again shocked at her mother's appearance. She never thought she'd ever see her mother wear a corset.
"You can't be. It's impossible."
"No it's not. Everyone in town is like us," Karyn said. Zoe turned back and looked at Karyn.
"Everyone? In town?" Zoe said. Then, the word town sparked a memory from that morning. She remembered herself wishing that everyone in town would become like her. She looked from Karyn to Jon to her mom, and then she smiled. "My wish. It came true," she said, as realization hit her.
Then Jon and Karyn exchanged uneasy looks.
Jon rummaged through his black canvas bag (just like the one Zoe had) and touched the stone. It was still in there. And he was pretty sure that it had never left his room. How did Zoe use it then?
Unfortunately, Jon didn't realize that his stone was replaced with the Proximity Stone the previous night. Zoe's wish had come true because she was within 20 feet from the stone. And Jon now thought that this reality was normal, because he didn't hear his sister make her wish.
