Jon thought that maybe it was just cloudy. Maybe that was why the sky looked black. But if there were clouds, then he could have seen light (from the streetlamps) being reflected off of them. No, there was no light.
Jon looked around and saw people leaving for work, like nothing was different.
It's not like this all over the world. Is it? Jon thought to himself. According to this grandfather's letter, the stone only had a range of several miles. But his grandfather also said that he had not been able to determine an exact figure. Maybe his grandfather was wrong. Maybe someone made it so that stars didn't exist ... in the entire universe. But why would someone wish for that? And how could people live on Earth without sunlight?
