"I wish I knew why the stones were acting like this!" said the real Jon (apparently Becky).
She waited for words to go through her head, or something, but nothing whatsoever happened.
But suddenly the other "Jon" stopped what he was saying to Karyn.
"What is it?" asked Karyn.
"Karyn, I think we need to talk, with Becky Goldson. Something's wrong with these rocks and she's very important to this."
Jon heard this and she didn't know what to do. As "Jon" approached her, she backed away.
"Hold it!" said "Jon". "I'm not going to hurt you. We need to clear this up... please?"
Jon in Becky's body kept backing away.
"I wish the three of us could just talk this over right now." That wish would have the same effect either way--the 'three of us' meant the same thing for both stones, since the possessors were close together.
Suddenly the world turned dim and red, except for Karyn, "Jon," and "Becky." Everyone else was standing absolutely still. It was as if time had stopped... and no doubt that was what had happened. Since class was about to start, they couldn't talk it over unless they had some extra time to do it in.
And "Becky" suddenly felt exhausted. She had to sit down on a bench. "Jon" and Karyn came over too and "Jon" began to explain.
"Look," he said, "these stones are wrong. There are two of them and if you make a wish on one, the other person gets it. You wished to know why the stones were like this, so I was the one who knew instead!"
"I don't get it," said Karyn.
"Jon" explained. "Karyn, someone replaced the stone with two stones, and when you make a wish on one, the other person gets it. Sarah got one and I... well, not really me, but let's say 'I'... I got the other. Then Sarah made a wish."
"What wish was that?" asked Karyn.
"She wished to be the most popular girl in school. It affected the person who had the other stone, who was me. Sort of. The most popular girl is Becky, so Jon and Becky swapped bodies. Which means that I'm really Becky. I just look like Jon and think like Jon. And 'Becky' over there is really me."
"Wow, this is complicated," said "Becky". "But what can we do about it? You look like me, you remember being me, you may as well be me. But I'm also me, even though I'm in a girl's body now."
"Well, let's see," said "Jon"...
