Athena gave the stone back to Zoe. "Did you use it?" she asked.
"Yeah. But it didn't work for some reason."
"Did you state your wish right? I've heard that you need to be specific."
"I was specific."
"What exactly did you say?" Athena asked.
"I said 'I wish I was the sexiest Goth girl around' ... or something like that." But nothing happened. "See? Nothing. I'm still myself."
"Jon is the sexiest Goth girl around, you know. Maybe you could just ask her for some pointers," Athena suggested.
"Jon is a Goth girl?" Zoe said, startled.
Athena displayed an odd look. "Of course she is." Then her attention got distracted by two girls approaching. "There's your sister now with Karyn."
Of course, if Karyn was the sexiest Goth girl around, Jon would no longer be. So the wish that would have changed Karyn did nothing because changing Karyn this way would have reversed the first wish, and wishes can't be reversed.
Meanwhile, Jon was explaining what happened to Karyn, since for this version of the stones, both people would remember the previous reality. "Really, I wasn't always a Goth girl, even though being this way is so natural that I just got dressed without thinking. I'm serious... check my livejournal account, it's out of the wish range so it shows me as a guy...."
"Really?" said Karyn. "As far as I remember, you were always like this. And that shouldn't happen if you have the stone. Are you sure you know what's going on here?"
