Jon was about to go back into the school and after Karyn, but he stopped when he heard the sound of shattering glass. He ran to the side of the building and saw Athena lying in the grass, pieces of glass scattered around her. Apparently, she was tossed through the window.
He ran over to her, helping her up. "Are you okay?"
"Where's your friend?" she asked, looking around.
"She went back inside. I tried to warn her, but it's a lot more difficult now that she doesn't remember the stone. She thinks I'm crazy."
"Come on," Athena said, pulling Jon with her, away from the school. "We have to get out of here."
Jon shook her off. "But what about Karyn? We can't just leave her here."
"Her imprint is gone. She's not in danger anymore."
"You don't know that. That guy could harm her just to make me mad, to lure me in."
"More the reason not to be around, then," Athena said. "Now let's go."
