"I don't know what to say!" said Jen. "I don't remember this new reality. I wish Milo would forget he called me but call me again in fifteen minutes."
"You know," said Karyn, "that's strange. I wished you would both have Jon's mind. You weren't a nudist when you were Jon... Hmm. That's right. One of you is a Jon, so wishing you have Jon's mind could mean that you have Jon's mind as of now, so that can be anything. Can I borrow that? Please?"
Jen reluctantly handed the stone over to Karyn.
"I wish," said Karyn, "that Jon's and Jen's personality is each a copy of Jon's from a second before I turned Jon into a girl, except that they keep their memories. I wish that Jon has and wears clothes like Jon did before I made Jon a girl, and Jen has and wears clothes about as modest as mine, without being copies of mine. Does that work?"
The wish gave the usual effect. Jon got his normal clothes, and Jen got a longer skirt, and apparently underwear inside... but the question went unanswered.
"Fine," said Karyn. "I wish I knew if that'll work. In fact, I wish I knew why the wishes have been acting funny." She paused and said "Oh, great."
"What?" replied Jon and Jen almost in unison--but not in the creepy one-mind way they did before.
"It's the amnesia stone," said Karyn, squinting. "We had the amnesia stone and the regular stone in the same place. That's never supposed to happen. You get interference and it makes the stones more likely to give only what you ask for and not what you meant. It wears off in around a week. And by the way, the stone granted that wish by making me see spots before my eyes that spell the words out." She rubbed her eyes. "The spots are fading... good."
"You mean I'm going to have to go out with Milo?" said Jen. "And I can't use the stone to change anything?"
"You can use it," said Karyn. "But there's a risk, so you don't want to unless it's an emergency. I don't think the date's an emergency, so have a fun date! If it's a date and it isn't just someone giving you a lift somewhere."
"What?!" replied Jen. "I don't want to go on a date with this Milo person any more than Jon would!"
"I'm sorry, Jen," said Karyn. "I really didn't mean to start all of this... but I don't think there's much you can do for the next week."
The phone rang just then. Jen was already paying attention, by watching the clock and seeing when fifteen minutes had passed, so she picked it up... but she silently passed it to Jon.
"Hello, Jen," said Milo's voice. "Do you know what time I can pick you up this evening?"
"Oh, it's for Jen," said Jon into the phone. "I'll go get her. What are you picking her up for tonight anyway?"
