As Jon was in the bathroom next to his room, Karyn snuck in and picked up the stone. She just couldn't wait until Jon was ready to go to use it. Fortunately, she noticed that it was a different wishing stone.
As Jon walked back into the room, Karyn warned him. "Jon, the stone... this isn't the same stone! Someone replaced it!"
"No wonder!" exclaimed Jon. "No wonder it looked different in the sunlight. We have to do something.
"We could use this stone to find the other one?" suggested Karyn.
"But you don't know what it does. What if it explodes in your face or something?"
"Yeah, that's a problem. I wish we could just catch whoever took the other stone..."
Alarmed, Jon threw himself at Karyn and tried to cover her mouth. It was too late, of course. Karyn had made the wish... but fortunately, this wasn't such a bad wish to get amnesia about. A man materialized out of thin air, tripped, and fell onto the corner of Jon's dresser. His head was hit in just the right spot and he was instantly knocked unconscious.
"Wow, wasn't that lucky..." said Karyn.
"Lucky? Karyn, you just wished for that. It wasn't luck. Are you telling me you don't remember wishing we'd catch the thief? And you think he was here all along and he didn't materialize out of thin air?"
"I... no, Jon. Did I really make a wish?"
"Yeah, you did." Jon plucked the real stone out of the man's pocket and said, "I wish me and Karyn would know what the other stone does, and I wish Karyn would remember making the wish she made."
"I..." said Karyn, and then it hit her. "I did make a wish! I just forgot it! But you made me remember using the real stone."
"Yeah, that was a close call," said Jon. "Imagine going through the day making wishes and forgetting about them." He handed the stone to Karyn. "Here, now you can make whatever wish you were trying to make before without messing up."
"Sure, Jon." She made sure she was touching only the normal stone and said, "I wish Jon was a girl."
Jon immediately morphed into a nearly-naked female version of himself.
Karyn looked over at Jen, who was holding a bath towel around herself, at waist level.
"Karyn! What did you do to me?" she said. "You turned me into a girl!"
"Yeah, I turned you into a girl."
"But I don't get it. A wish like that... Karyn, if you're going to turn me into a girl, it hardly matters whether we have the amnesia stone or the regular one, because that's a bad wish to make even if you have the right stone.
