"You, uh, want to split up? So it's not weird when we arrive?" Biff asked.
Leonard thought about that, but shook his head "no". "Let them think whatever they want," he said. It was odd, though. Normally, he'd be worried about people seeing him associate with an asshole like Biff ... though, at the moment, the jock didn't seem like as much of an asshole as usual. In fact, he seemed kind of cool.
"Thanks for letting me keep the shirt," Biff said, looking down at it. "It's kind of big for me, but I like it."
"You a 'Star Trek' fan?" Leonard asked, raising an eyebrow in surprise. No way was someone like Biff into that, or anything else like it.
"Sure," Biff said, but then blinked. Wait, was he? It felt strange, for some reason. But then after thinking about it a little, he could recall several episodes of it, and also several more from the other shows. He chuckled to himself, thinking he was being silly. Of course he watched "Star Trek". It was one of his favorites.
"I had no idea," Leonard said. But then he wondered why that was. After all, Biff was his friend. Right? Sure, Leonard was a geek/nerd and Biff was a jock, but when Leonard had found out that Biff was into "Star Trek" and other sci-fi stuff, they had hit it off. They had something in common, something they shared. Biff constantly got hassled by his teammates on the football team about his friendship with Leonard, but Biff always stood up for him. Biff was such a great friend.
By the time they arrived at the school, they were deep in a discussion about one of the plot-lines from one of the most recent "Star Trek" shows, totally forgetting the awkward breakfast they had, or the conversation of whether or not they should split up on their way to school. They were best friends now. But as their changes continued and reality changed along with it, that would no longer be true. But for the moment and for the near future, they would be friends.
