Jade walked in the door of the Duncan household, fretting about what exactly she had done. The cat paw was cool and all, but she’d just turned Ash Miller from an alpha female into...decidedly not one.
“Hi sweetheart!” her father Rubi greeted her, peering out from the kitchen where he was busy preparing the meal for tonight’s dinner. “How was your day?”
Jade hung her purse on the hook by the door and took off her shoes before she entered the kitchen.
“It was fine.” She looked over her father’s shoulder. “What’s for dinner?”
“Chicken pot pie,” she responded as she chopped up vegetables. “Want to help make the pastry?”
“Sure,” Jade nodded. “Let me drop off my things first and wash up.” Her father acknowledged and returned to her chopping. Jade headed back into the hallway where she spotted her younger brother Diamond in the living room watching cartoons.
“Hey bro!” she called out as she leaned over the couch and poked her head in front of her brother’s face.
“Jade!” Diamond squealed excitedly as she quickly spun around and pulled her brother into a bone crushing hug.
“Whoa! Easy there, honey,” Jade wheezed as she tried to keep her balance. Diamond released her brother and muttered an apology all the while still grinning from ear to ear. Jade smiled back and ruffled her brother’s hair before retreating upstairs to her room.
The sense of normality from her interactions with her family had distracted Jade for a moment from her interactions with Jonatha’s magical cat paw, but now, in her room, Jade was suddenly reminded of her wish.
Before she had made her wish about Ash, Ash and her had hooked up briefly and while, thankfully, she didn’t get pregnant, she had been hurt by the fact that Ash had pretended to like her. Now that Ash was no longer one of the school’s top athletes, Jade began to wonder if that meant that maybe someone else had hooked up with her instead.
“Crap!” she suddenly yelled out loud. The hookup had been weeks ago and there was no way that Jade would be able to find out if she was pregnant until it was too late. Unless…
Jade quickly dug out her phone and hit speed dial on Jonatha’s number. She just hoped that her best friend would answer.
