Jonatha’s little meeting with her friend meant that she was later home than usual and as a result, her sister Zoe was already home. After grabbing a soft drink from the refrigerator, Jonatha took off her shoes by the door and headed upstairs.
Zoe’s door was open slightly, and he was already sitting at her desk getting started on his homework. Zoe was quite the studious gurl, coming top of his class in almost every subject. His laptop was open and tuned to his favourite radio station, so he didn’t hear his brother come in.
“Hey, Zoe,” Jonatha called out softly as she sat down on Zoe’s bed. Jonatha and Zoe had a pretty good relationship and often hung out together after school. Zoe looked up, and after turning the volume down, he turned around to face his sibling.
“Hey, bro. You’re home late,” he noted, glancing at the clock on his laptop. Jonatha nodded.
“Yeah, I needed to show Jade something.” Zoe looked at Jonatha quizzically for a moment before asking.
“Is this to do with Grandma’s inheritance?”
Jonatha looked shocked for a moment.
“How did you know?”
“Because you’re not the only one who got something in the mail after he died.” Zoe turned around and opened one of his desk drawers and pulled out an envelope that looked exactly like the one that Jonatha got.
“Mikelle got something too, but Mom said that she can have it when she’s older.”
Jonatha was stunned.
“Wow! So all three of us got something from Grandma, huh?”
Zoe nodded.
“So what did you get from Grandma?” Jonatha asked, curious to see if he got anything magical.
Zoe reached behind and took a sip from his drink before reaching into his envelope.
