"I wish ..."
"You wish what, Mr. Whiteman?"
Jon turned around abrubtly. It was Mr. Reynolds, one of the history teachers.
"I wish you'd call me by my first name," Jon said with a smile. In his fist, the stone warmed up, but Jon didn't see the glow. Mainly because he was keeping it out of Mr. Reynolds' view.
"And why should I do that, Mr. Whiteman?"
It didn't work! Why didn't it work? Jon thought to himself.
"No reason. Um. I should be getting home."
While walking down the hall, Jon heard the teacher say "Be sure to make it to class on time tomorrow, Mr. Whiteman."
Then Jon whispered out loud to himself "Why didn't the stone work on him?"
