Jon's mom (Linda) had gotten a very disappointing call from the high school concerning Jon's absence from many of his classes and she was about to ground him, but the moment she saw him after walking into the house, all of her plans to punish him disappeared in a puff of smoke. Her hands going to her mouth in shocked excitement, she smiled happily at what she saw. Finally, finally, Jon had made himself look beautiful! She finally got the daughter she always wanted.
"Oh, Jon," she gushed. "You look gorgeous!"
Jon couldn't help but smile. "Thanks, Mom."
Linda was amazed. In less than a day, Jon had gone from an amateur dresser and make-up applier to a professional one. "How ... how did ..."
"I spent all afternoon at school reading fashion magazines. They told me how to make myself look beautiful." He looked a little troubled. "I ... I hope you're not mad that I blew off my classes to read fashion magazines."
"Oh, don't worry about it, Jon."
"Really?"
"Well, considering that you were improving yourself, I think we can overlook it this time. But just this once. School is important too, you know. Just read your fashion mags on your own time from now on, alright?"
"Sure, Mom," Jon said, pleased that his mom was so understanding.
