The next day, Saturday, Jon awoke bright and early... It was nearing 11:30 in the morning.
He trundled down the stairs and saw his mother in the kitchen, cooking something. She smiled brightly as she said, "My, my, Jon, up already? It's not even the crack of noon." Jon grimaced. His mother liked to make that joke, in fact she said it every chance she got. Jon grabbed the orange juice from the fridge and a glass from the cabinet.
"Any plans today, Jon?" she asked.
"Gonna go hang out with Karyn." Jon said simply. He was still rather groggy. Jon finished his glass of juice and returned upstairs.
In his room, Jon started to get dressed. He had jeans and a t-shirt on, and was searching for a pair of clean socks when something in his drawer caught his eye.
Taking it out, he saw that it was a pair of briefs from when he was nine or ten. "What are these doing in here?" Jon asked himself. He threw the underwear over his shoulder and continued looking for socks.
Eventually, Jon had searched the entire drawer, finding no socks. He sat down on the bed, thinking that he might just wear sandals that day. As he wondered where his sandals might be, he turned his attention to his feet. There were the briefs. Suddenly struck with an odd idea and having no clue where it could have come from, Jon stood up...
Half an hour later, Jon exited his house, calling back to his mother that he would be home before midnight ('Midnight on Tuesday,' he whispered). His sandaled feet were only slightly chilly in the Spring air. Jon set out, walking towards Karyn's house.
