This new server gives me the opportunity to make my first post here.
I know the topic of different story roots has been brought up a couple of times before but I agree that this may be the best time to reconsider alternatives. Previously, new story lines were added beneath "and now for something completely different" or similar which sort of opened up everything. It was however still 'hidden' under the main story with the endless introduction chapter of Jon and Karyn.
I would love to see various roots with different premises:
-
"Adults": Being mid 30s, I cannot identify anymore with so many stories about 16 year old boys obsessed with their mothers and going to school/malls only. Having 'adults' as premise opens up a new possibilities: work place (boss, employee, co-worker, etc.), relationships (passed and present), having own kids, etc.
-
"European": I don't think I'm going out on a limb assuming most authors here are from the US. This is a good thing! Yet having a European-based story would also enable new focuses: various nationalities (and not just ethnicities), languages and closer distances; more open-minded/liberal societies (prostitution allowed, drug use not considered serious crimes); jocks&cheerleaders; being so popular does not apply here.
Does that make sense or am I just rambling?
