Then, an idea occurred to me. I wonder if it would work.
"Zoe! Karyn! Get out of here, and make sure my mom's not in the house!"
"Yes, sir!" Karyn shouted before hauling my sister out after her. After waiting as long as I dared, I turned back to Sarah.
"Sarah, when I say now, let go and lower your hands."
She looked at me. "Huh?"
"Trust me!" I got into position and hefted my sword. "Are you ready?"
Sarah nodded.
"Good," I said, lunging forward and swinging my blade up in a high arc. "NOW!"
Immediately, Sarah let go and brought her hands to her sides just as my sword past overhead and cut through both the demoness's wrists. Instantly, I sensed a drop in the dark magic all around me except for where Biff's hands now hung suspended, still connected by lightning.
Dropping my weapon, I continued forward, tackling Biff and Sarah. All three of us tumbled across the room and out of the huge hole in my wall. Right before we landed in my mom's junipers below, an explosion rocked the entire street and took out a good chunk of our second floor.
Debris rained down around us, but we dared not move. Once the air cleared of falling objects, two shadows fell over me.
"Jon, you're okay!" Zoe threw her arms around me. "Don't worry. Mom's safe. She heard the battle start and knew to leave the area."
"Where are the others?" Karyn asked. "Wait, there they are!" She pointed at the nearest crater left in the bushes.
Cautiously, I made my way over to look. Was the demoness still a threat?
