I was genuinly confused. My first thought was the stone - I know I would tell Karen about it, but I'd never tell someone like Sarah McMillian. Nor would Karen. Which begged the question - what was she talking about.
"Anyway [i]ladies[/i], " Sarah continued, setting down the vacumn, "I expect we're going to need all the help we can get at this next competition. Which means a lot more focus on practice and a lot less focus on..." she looked at me, a peculiar kind of hunger in her eyes, "distractions."
I felt myself blush despite an my own personal protests, "Whatever, Sarah." I replied.
"She's so cute when she's flustered," Sarah laughed, "I need to get home and give Biff a call," she stated simply, "Don't take it as an insult, Jon. There's just a kind of pressure for the head cheerleader and the quarterback to be an item. Trust me, it's nothing." she smiled, came over and kissed me quickly, "I'll text you later. Keep practiciing." and she skipped out the door.
"That was...weird," I managed, looking at Karen and Zoe for confirmation.
"It wasn't that weird, Jon." Karen replied, "You know how Sarah acts. Everytime she leaves after a practice she makes sure that we're all OK."
"OK?" I asked, peering at them, "What do you mean OK?"
Zoe looked at me curiously, "C'mon Jon, it's not funny anymore. You know Karen's talking about..."
