Karyn mulled over the situation as she went through the familiar motions of the second-to-last boss battle, but every line of thinking she pursued led her to the same end. Jon's my mom now. She cringed as she thought of it, knowing that for what he'd done he wouldn't have gotten the benefit of a hypnotron. The only part that didn't fit is that he thought she would, but he didn't seem to know who she was.
But how to let him know? She could be coy about it, make sure that was the case first. She could ask questions, and once again probe to find out what was really up. She could... her train of thought was interrupted by someone entering the room, and on reflex she said, "Hey, Jon."
The intruder froze, and out of the corner of her eye she saw Jon's mother standing there, face blank with shock. "H-how did you know? Who are you?" she asked, confirming Karyn's suspicions.
"Just a lucky guess," she said, pausing the game to look up at Jon. "You don't know? You really can't tell?" she teased, smiling.
Recognition flared in his eyes and he blushed deeply. "Karyn?! This is... ugh," he said, closing the door. "I didn't want you to find out," he moaned, tears welling in his eyes. "I don't know what to say. This is the worst day of my life."
"It's okay, Jon," Karyn said quickly. "We'll figure this out, I swear. We'll set both of us right and fix this." She wasn't even sure of what she'd just said, but it felt right, as did getting up and hugging him. A chill ran through her body as she felt his, soft and pliable, and her own unwanted reaction to the sensation. He clung tightly to her, sobbing by now.
After several minutes he pulled away, sniffling and rubbing his red eyes. "Sorry about that. I couldn't stop myself..." he said, neither of them fully noticing Karyn's eyes settled on his large chest. "Are you sure? I don't think there's any way to reverse something like this."
"Don't be silly," Karyn said, pulling her eyes back up to his face and smiling reassuringly. "If they did it there's got to be a way to undo it. We just have to find it. I swear we will. Trust me, I want this just as much as you do... no offense." They both laughed an uneasy laugh.
