I woke up the next morning with my alarm going off. Reaching over, I slid my finger over my phone to dismiss the alarm. As I moved to look at the time, I noticed the box that contained the wishing stone sitting on my bedside table. My thoughts turned back to yesterday’s events. I wondered how Nathen had been coping with the results of hir wish, so I picked up my phone, sat up in bed and texted hir.
Morning, I wrote.
Hey… Thanks for waking me up, she replied.
Sorry for waking you, I just wanted to see if there were any more results because of your wish.
There was a bit of a pause before Nathen responded.
Honestly, not much. I’m still living with my dad downtown. I did pass a couple of bois on the way home and they did seem to take a bit more of an interest than normal. Oh, and apparently, I’m still on the soccer team.
I blinked. That was new: as I’d mentioned before, Nathen used to be on the soccer team but quit because shi needed to be at home more to help out with hir dad.
Interesting, I wonder what changed so that you stayed on the team.
Another pause.
Yeah, anyway. Are you going to bring the stone to school?
I’m not sure, it could be dangerous. I think that we need to lay out a few ground rules before we start making any more wishes.
Just then, I was interrupted by a knock on the door.
“Zane, honey? Are you up? Jonatha’s finished in the shower.”
“Alright, I’ll be out in a sec,” I replied. I looked down at my phone to see that Nathen had replied saying that shi agreed with me. I informed hir that I was going to take a shower and then I set about getting ready for school.
