As Zoe walked to her friend Athena's house, she thought about how fucked up her life was. Her mother was a bitch, always nosing into her business and then grounding her whenever she did something "wrong", her little brother was a nuisance, and although her older brother Jon was usually nice to her, he really didn't understand her. Most people didn't.
But even though she felt like she was in hell, with no way out, she at least had her friends to keep her company - Athena and Zelda, and then also Sabrina, Stephanie, and Trevor. The Goth crowd at the high school was small, yes (just the six of them). But Zoe preferred it that way. She didn't want the whole school to be like them (she was a bit of a non-conformist). But she'd be lying if the desire hadn't crossed her mind. Imagine it - the most girlie girl in school (but total bitch) Sarah McMillan and her chunk-head jock boyfriend Biff Meadows suddenly becoming like Zoe and her friends? Yeah, that was definitely desirable. They'd understand her, probably for the first time ever.
She sighed, continuing to walk to her friend's house, and said "I wish ..."
