The drive home was uneventful, but when Jane arrived at her house, it was anything but.
Opening the door to her house, she immediately announced that she was home. Zoe may have disrespected Jane, but she was still her mother. And she always wanted to keep her daughter on a short leash, so to speak. And that included dealing with Zoe's unexpected guests that she occasionally had.
But today she didn't have to worry about that. Because from this point forward, Zoe wasn't that type of girl. Not anymore.
Zoe came around the corner and said "Hi, Mom." She was smiling, cheerfully.
Jane nearly dropped her purse in shock. Everything about her daughter was different. First of all, she was no longer Goth, not even in the slightest. And she was even wearing pink! But it was even more than that. She had a cheerful, pleasant attitude. One that seemed very similar to that of Linda's daughter Stacey.
"Mom," Zoe said. "I've got some big news."
Jane felt weak in the knees and had to sit down. She wasn't angry about Zoe's change, just confused by it. Her daughter was so different that it was jarring.
"I got onto the cheerleading squad!" she yelled with excitement, jumping up and down as she did.
"But ... you hate cheerleading," Jane said.
"What are you talking about, Mom? I've been trying to get onto the squad all year. They usually don't recruit Freshmen, you know."
