Lisa looked at the clock. It was 12:55 AM. She was getting restless. She played it over and over again in her mind, trying to figure out how something like this could happen. She figured that it must have happened when she was out visiting yard sales, but she couldn't narrow down exactly when.
She looked up from the bed and her gaze fell onto the black case holding that ugly medallion she bought. She was wearing that when she looked different. Could that have something to do with it? She shook her head. That was ridiculous. Something like that couldn't make her look like someone else. But then again, what exactly could?
Lisa got up off the bed and approached the black case. She opened it and a small folded up note fell out. Was that there before?
She picked it up off the floor and unfolded it. It was a note, written in scrawled handwriting, but it was still readable.
*To whom it may concern. If you are reading this note, you are no doubt the new owner of the Medallion of Zulo. Take heed, that while it may look like no more than cheap jewelry, it is the greatest thing you could have ever found. For this medallion is magic.
Using the Medallion is simple. Just put it on and touch a piece of clothing to it. The Medallion's magic will transform your body into an exact copy of the person who last wore the clothing, as they were when they last wore it. If you touch a piece of clothing to it that has never been worn, you will change into a version of yourself that is appropriate for the clothing. Finally, if you touch the Medallion to another person, both you and the other person will change into each other.
But there are things you must be careful of when using the Medallion. First, there is a time limit. Once a person has been changed by the Medallion, they cannot change again for twelve hours. Second, if the Medallion is taken off or separated from the article of clothing during the transformation, then the transformation will stop where it is. Usually, you can finish transforming just by putting the Medallion back on and touching it to the clothing again. But if you wait too long (roughly ten minutes after taking it off or removing it from the article of clothing), then you will not be able to change until the time limit has passed. Finally, there is the matter of changes to the mind. Normally, this is nothing more than small things. Knowing how to walk or get dressed, just little things to make it easier to function in the new body. But there is a chance, regardless of how small, that larger changes might be made.
This is all I have to tell you. The Medallion and all the possibilities it presents are yours now. I ask only that, should you ever decide to get rid of it, that you place this note back in the box so that the Medallion's next owner will know how to use it as well.*
Lisa dropped down onto the bed, reading the note. The medallion. That's what made her look like this Goth girl. If only she had read that note before, maybe she could have avoided all of this. But then again, she might not have believed it.
Thinking back, the only other piece of clothing she came in contact with after putting on the medallion was that ankh necklace at the last yard sale she went to before going home. She paused. How did she know that it was an ankh? She had no idea. She just ... knew. She recalled the last part of the note, about the possible mental changes. Could it be that maybe part of Sydney's mind could be part of her now?
She held her breath suddenly. How did she know the girl's name? She began to sweat. She had to do something about this before it was too late. But according to the note, she couldn't do anything for another six or seven hours. What if Sydney took her over before then? She started to sweat even more, fearing the worst.
She closed her eyes and focused on herself, the way she was supposed to be. Maybe if she did that, anything of Sydney would keep out. Maybe there was a chance she could get through this.
