"Well, the prom's tomorrow," said Jonnie. "We have to figure something out."
"Yeah," said Jon. "You're the girl... will you wear the dress? For me? We can't really put off the decision any more. We came up with all these ideas, and we have to use one of them. Wish that you like dresses, wish that nobody minds you not wearing one, wish that everyone thinks you're wearing one, or wish that I'm a girl and we both have dresses..."
"We could," said Jonnie, "wish me into a guy again. You know wishes always have these loopholes. There has to be something."
"Then you have to wish that I like guys..." explained Jon.
"I think the best way to do it is just to wish that I want to wear the dress," said Jonnie.
"But I don't want to do it!" said Jon. "We're supposed to be almost the same person. All right, you're a girl, I had to do that for it to work at all, but if we start changing personalities, who knows what side effects there could be. The easiest way to make you like dresses could be to completely change your mind." Jon grinned at his clone's almost identical face and then added "You know, it's strange. You're the one who wants to mind control yourself, and I'm the one who doesn't want you to. You'd think it'd be the other way around."
"Yeah, but it doesn't matter anyway. The stone follows instructions" said Jonnie. "Just wish that I want to wear a dress without changing anything else. Or..."
"Or what?" asked Jon.
Jonnie got out the stone and held it up so she was sure Jon would see it, and then said "I wish that we're so in love with each other that I'd gladly wear a dress to the prom for you."
Jon blinked--or was it the effect of the stone?-- and looked at Jonnie with astonishment. "Y-- you..." He was surprised, but of course, the wish itself meant he couldn't really get mad at Jonnie for making it.
Jonnie glanced at him knowingly and he hesitated further. "That settles it," she said. "We're going to go to the prom and it's going to be the best prom we can have even if I do have to dress as a girl. For the sake of the boy I love, the only guy in the world who I'd ever want to be with. Who I know like I do myself."
"I love you too," said Jon. "I think I might even have before. Did the stone really do anything?"
"I don't know," said Jonnie. "I like to think that it didn't. It's only a one-shot anyway."
"What do you mean?"
"If you wish to be cold or wet you can still warm up and dry out. If you wish for long hair you can still cut it. And if you wish to be in love it can still go away like anyone else who used to be in love. It's just a wish, Jon. The future's still ours to make."
