The rest of the evening passed by uneventfully. Jon did his homework (now in Tiffany’s feminine handwriting) and then played some video games until his mom came home and cooked dinner. It was still weird for Jon that none of his family noticed that anything was going on.
For them, it was normal that Jon wore women’s underwear, had a feminine style handwriting and that he dated other boys. Of course, his mother disapproved of exactly how many boys he date, so Jon figured that that was something.
Jon discovered this fact during dinner, when the conversation, seemingly inevitably, turned towards his dating habits.
“So Jonni, I noticed that you brushed off Steve this morning.” His sister, Zoe, piped up. “What? Is it your time of the month?” She chuckled.
“No!” Jon snapped. He was glad that his wish had worked because he didn’t think that he could handle getting periods every month. “I just didn’t want talk to him today.” He finished.
His mother seemed to approve. “Well, I’m glad that you’re learning to say no. Honey, lIfe isn’t all about sex. I’ve given you this lecture enough times already,” she told him.
“But I…” Jon trailed off, there was no use trying to explain to them that, before this morning, he had never dated any boys or the fact that his mother had never actually given him such a lecture.
“Never mind,” he finished, returning to his dinner, shooting a couple of glares at Zoe who just smirked back.
“It’s also a bad influence on Mikey,” His mother continued indicating towards Jon’s younger sibling. “What’s he going to think when he sees you coming home with a different boy every day of the week?”
“Mom!” Jon cried out, but his mom continued.
“While I understand that it can open his mind about same-sex relationships, I don’t want him thinking that it’s ok to just move on to another boy once he’s grown tired of the previous one.”
“Yeah, imagine having two sluts in the family.” Zoe chuckled.
“Zoe!” Linda scolded her. “That’s no way to talk about your brothers,” Zoe muttered an apology.
“May I be excused?” Jon asked, he had finished his dinner and to be fair, he didn’t really want to sit through this conversation any longer. His mother frowned but then softened and allowed him to leave.
That was weird. Jon thought as he returned to his bedroom. Jon heard a noise coming from his bedroom and discovered, upon opening his door, that it was his phone. Picking it up he saw that it was Steve.
What does he want? Jon asked. He thought about ignoring it, but something inside him wanted to hear Steve’s voice again, so he answered.
“Hey babe,” Steve greeted him. Jon blushed a little at being called babe. “So I noticed that you ran off after practice. Where’d you go?”
“Oh, um, I just…ah…realised that I had some homework that needed doing.” Jon lied. Steve chuckled.
“You’re cute when you lie, you know that? It’s ok, I know your reputation. So what was he like? Was he better than me?”
Jon almost dropped the phone. “W-what!? No, Steve, it wasn’t anything like that. I really needed to get home. That’s all.” Steve didn’t sound convinced, but fortunately, he didn’t push.
“Uh-huh, so anyway. Since you missed me after practice, how about we go on a proper date? Tomorrow night? I’ll take you to the movies.”
Jon didn’t answer immediately. “Um,” He wasn’t sure how much longer that he would be able to blow Steve off, so he figured that he’d bite the bullet. “Sure, I’d like that.”
“Great!” Steve seemed to perk up. “I’ll pick you up at 7. I’ll make sure that your mom doesn’t see. I know that she doesn’t approve of me.”
“Yeah…
“See you tomorrow Jonni.”
The last thought that Jon had as he hung up was.
Why is everybody calling me Jonni?
