"Uh, what do you mean? What's tonight?" Jon wasn't sure what was going on now. He never made plans on Friday night. He usually just hung out with Karyn, most of the time on instant messenger.
"What? The game tonight. You know Sarah doesn't like you being around when she's cheering."
"Why on earth would I go watch her cheer, mom?"
"Oh good. Last week you said you would. I'm glad you listened to me and decided against it." She smiled with relief and started to walk away.
He was really curious now, so he decided to play dumb.
"Uh, mom?"
She stopped and turned back around.
"Why, er, how did this happen?" He gestured at his outfit.
"How did what happen?"
"This? My clothes? What's up with it?"
"Don't be silly, Jon. You were little and it's ok now. But you better hurry or you'll miss the bus."
"Uh, right, ok."
She walked downstairs and Jon went back to his room.
