Jon feels a tingling sensation throughout his whole body, and within several seconds he sees a bright flash of light, and then there's darkness. He tries to put out his arms to feel his way around, but he's completely paralysed. As Jon thinks about it, he realises that he can't actually feel his arms anymore. Or his legs. In fact, his whole body feels weird. It then occurs to him that he seems to be upside down, and that he can feel something warm and smooth on either side of him.
To his surprise, the smooth, warm things on either side of him start to move. The one to his left moves forward and the one to his right moves back. Then they change. The right one moves forward and the left one back. It doesn't take Jon long to work out that they're legs he can feel on either side of him.
