The stone flashed, telling Jon that his wish had been granted. As it was almost time for dinner, Jon would have an opportunity to see how his family had changed.
As it was almost dinner time, Jon went down to the kitchen. Having a meal together would be a good time to see how his wish had changed reality. When he got down there, he was in for a surprise. There were three women in the kitchen: his mom and Sarah McMillian's mom were making dinner and Karyn's mother was setting the table. Sarah and Karyn were his half-sisters! While having Karyn, his best friend, for a half-sister, seemed pretty cool, having Sarah as a half sister didn't seem quite as nice.
"Hey, sweetie," Karyn's mom said. She kissed him lightly on the cheek and said, "I was just about to call you. Dinner is almost ready and I hoped you would be willing to help me set the table." Jon supposed that having two new wives and at least two new daughters meant a lot more dishes.
As Jon and his new mother finished setting the table, his dad came in. He kissed his new wife, saying, "How are my favorite girls? Are the others still making dinner?"
"Yes," said Karyn's mom. "We're just about ready to eat." Jon could hear his brothers and sisters, both his original siblings as well as his new ones coming down the stairs. He wondered how having a newly expanded family would affect their relationships, particularly between Karyn, Sarah and himself.
