The siblings headed towards the office to meet Tina’s Mom as they had arranged the afternoon before. This was so she could take the two of them round to their classrooms to let their teachers know what was happening. Susan knocked on the office door and their friends mother told her to enter. Tom took a seat outside as he had done before without giving it any thought.
“You young lady, what are you sitting there for?” The school secretary asked him. “I am waiting to see Miss Lyons.” Tom answered softly. “Why are you not sitting with the other new girl? Go and sit over with her this instant.” The secretary told him. Tom was about to tell her that he was not a new student but thought better of it. He knew that his sister would be out to get he in a second.
Inside the office Miss Lyons was looking Susan up and down almost in shock. “I can’t believe how good that uniform looks on you Susan” The teacher told her pupil. “If you think I look good you should see Tom.” She replied and went on to tell her teacher of Tom’s adventure on the bus to school this morning.
They both walked to the door to see Susan’s brother who had been sitting on the seat outside the office. To their surprise the seat was empty. Tom was nowhere in sight, for the second time that morning Susan had lost her brother.
