Alien being Xerlok, formerly known as Karyn, kicked the table over. The game board landed on the ground, miraculously intact, but the table was knocked over and the Gibson family sought shelter under it.
Xerlok drew its quantum phaser and fired at Sarah with a crashing ZZZAPPKT, but Sarah dodged it and retrieved her stasis beam from her purse and fired.
Xerlok collapsed to the linoleum floor, trapped in the glowing orange stasis field.
Jon, in Zoe's body, was breathless. "What... just... happened?"
Sarah returned the stasis beam emitter to her purse and gabbed a look in her compact. She could thwart an alien threat all day long and still look totally hawt.
She explained, "I may look like just a dumb cheerleader, and maybe I am..."
"And slutty, too," Zoe muttered under Jon's breath.
Sarah continued, "But my father was a brilliant alien hunter. Before they abducted him, he taught me everything he knew and charged me with being one of Earth's only defenses when the invasion happens. That's why the game must have brought me here." As she said the words, they made no sense to her, but the card DID say she would be affected as well. "But now that I have taken Xerlok out, they know I'm onto them. They'll send more, and soon."
Sarah looked at the Gibson family and said, "The Battle for the Planet has begun. I need your help to destroy the invading mothership once and for all. We might have less than 48 hours until all of humanity is extinct."
Jon and Zoe looked at each other. Mikey looked at his mom. Mrs. Gibson looked at Xerlok.
Zoe whined, in a tone unsuited for Jon's vocal chords, "But... we have to finish this stupid game!"
