Wow that was neat. Alex thought to themself.
Now to see how that whole "turning off Incognito Mode" thing worked.
Alex navigated back to the home screen, being careful not to change anything on accident, and went back to the Incognito Mode screen. Turning it off brought up the options that the tutorial text had mentioned before. Alex pressed "History Altered" and selected themselves as the only person who would notice the changes.
They hit the confirm button and the world lagged.
When time seemed to be flowing normally, Alex tried greeting Leslie again.
"Hey Lez!"
Leslie nearly jumped out of her skin, almost sending the shelf she had been rooting around on down to the ground.
"Holy son of fucking a biscuit maker!" Leslie exclaimed as she got her footing back and turned around to face Alex. "You trying to kill me, Alex? How'd you get that close without me noticing?"
"What do you mean, I've been here since you walked in."
Leslie raised an eyebrow and frowned slightly in that way she did whenever she was certain that there was a joke she wasn't catching.
"Riiiiiight."
"It's the truth, cross me heart and hope to cry." Alex said, dramatically putting a hand on their chest. "Anyway, did you die your hair? It looks great."
"No?" Leslie pulled a strand down in front her her eye to check. "Nope, still the same red its been. 'bout the only part of me I like." She said, muttering the last bit. "Maybe it's the lighting in here."
Alex felt their gut plummet in a not altogether unpleasant way. She didn't notice.
Every confirmation was a fresh thrill. Now they just had to try out something more drastic.
