"I wish that untill I no longer desire to be my mom, I will be her, and she will, without the knowledge that something has happened, be me."
Jon blinked. Then he looked around. He was still in his room--he had expected to be where his mother was after the swap. Looking over his body, he saw no signs of breasts, hair, female clothes, or anything of the sort. Could it be that the stone only had a limited number of wishes? But that was impossible--Grandpa would have used it up and if by some miracle he hadn't, he'd certainly tell Jon.
He got out his cell phone and called Karyn. "Karyn? Something's wrong with the stone."
"You didn't get into trouble, did you?"
"No, Karyn, the stone just didn't work. I hope it didn't run out of juice."
"Well, why don't you try something else?"
"Okay, I wish for Karyn to be teleported here!"
"You can--" And Karyn's voice changed position and trailed off as she appeared from mid-air and didn't finish her sentence. "Never mind," she said, looking around. "Jon, if you want to talk about this, you really should tell me what you wished for!"
"Well, I, um.... It's embarrassing!"
"Just tell me! Sheesh."
"Okay. I wished I could be my Mom. I wanted to, well, experience...."
"You wanted to experience? Let me guess. Jon... Don't tell me you wanted to have sex." Jon shook his head, feebly. "You wanted to have sex with your Dad? Jon, that's sick!"
"I wasn't really thinking of it that way! I just wanted to have sex as her, it didn't occur to me that I'd be having sex with Dad! Anyway, it looks like the stone's working. Maybe it just doesn't like incest wishes."
"Maybe it doesn't," said Karyn. "But I have an idea... Jon, do you think your parents will mind if I stay for dinner? I've been here for dinner before."
"I doubt they'll mind," said Jon. "Mom?" he yelled.
"What is it?" she yelled back. That was a little strange--Jon's mother rarely did that."
"Can Karyn stay for dinner today?"
"I'm not making dinner!" she yelled, and opened the door. "Jon," she said, "I'm ordering out for pizza tonight."
"Uh-oh," said Karyn. "Mrs. Gibson, that's fine," she said. "But I'm going to have a word with Jon. Can we be alone for a while?"
Jon's mother looked skeptical, but left.
"That settles it," said Karyn. "I know why the stone didn't work!"
"Really?"
"It did work!"
"No, it didn't work."
"It did work, you just don't know it. What exactly did you wish for, Jon?"
"What exactly? Lemme remember. I wished I'd be Mom and she, without her knowledge, would be me."
"Right. She would without her knowledge be you. There's your answer."
"I still don't get it."
"It's easy. You're not Jon. You're Jon's mother. Jon made the wish and swapped. Him in his mother's body and his mother in his body... only his mother thinks she's him."
"So you're telling me the wish worked, and I'm really Mom? I just think I'm Jon? That's silly. I remember everything, I remember making the wish, I remember you as my friend...."
"Because Jon wished the swap would happen without your knowledge. So you think like Jon and you remember being Jon when you're in Jon's body, even though you're not Jon. Why do you think your 'Mom' is going to order pizza? Jon doesn't want to try cooking anything...."
