Not surprisingly, it turned out to be Karyn. The catgirl, having already been affected by the virus, had been assigned the task of helping her friend. Jon could see her practically bouncing with curiosity about how she had turned out.
As soon as Karyn spotted the car, she bounded up just in time to meet Jon emerging from the passenger side. The sight of her nearly caused the catgirl to trip over her own feet. "J-Jon!?"
Jon stood by the car, her tail twitching with nervousness. "Yeah, it's me." She had to look up at Karyn now that she barely made it to her waist. Apparently, she was only slightly more than the average weight for a sixteen year old female, but a good portion of it had been diverted to her wings, each measuring fifty-six inches. Thus, body-wise, she ended up rather small for a lioness or even a human.
Karyn was still trying to make her mouth work. "You, uh you're a What are you?"
"According to the doctor, I'm a sphinx."
"You're a girl!"
"That, too."
"And you're naked!"
Jon winced. "Don't remind me."
At this point, Karyn realized that Jon's mother was there watching them. Blushing, she gave a small wave. "Oh. Hi, Mrs. Madison."
"Hello, Karyn," Jon's mother smiled pleasantly. "Please, take good care of her, and try not to make her feel too uncomfortable."
"Of course. Um, we actually need to go to the school office. They want you to fill out some paperwork and get Jon prepared for classes."
Laura nodded. "Alright. Thank you, Karyn. Why don't you go on ahead while I lock up the car." With that, she gathered up her purse and closed both her door and Jon's. As she headed for the school building, she saw the catgirl holding the entrance door open for the sphinx. Seeing this gesture gave her some comfort. As serious as these events were for both girls, she knew that they would have their friendship to pull them through this mutually awkward transition in their lives.
