"Then you'd better have it tomorrow for partial credit," the teacher was saying to another student as Sarah flitted into history class, late. He was glad someone else was the focus of attention, so he could take his desk without being scolded for tardiness. He just hoped the student got his work done this time, though, because it bothered Sarah to see him get grilled.
As the teacher launched into a lecture on the causes of World War I, Sarah's thoughts went elsewhere. He wondered about Biff again. Confidential medical information or no, the mermaids' prognoses were all over the school. He wondered if, in a way, it would be even harder for Biff than it was for someone like Sarah. Of course Biff had to cope with a tranformation, but she couldn't really start adjusting until a year from now, when she lost her temporary fish tail but kept her new gender. At least for Sarah it all happened at once.
"I guess she just needs to keep busy until then," Sarah said to herself. "But everyone will probably be walking on eggshells around her. It would be nice if something came up to keep her busy, if only for the year."
