Trinity walked out of the building, leaving Zoe and Athena behind. Her earlier dealings with Drake and her inability to push herself into the mosh pit had soured the whole experience, which was saying something considering she hadn't even planned on attending this show in the first place.
She had been ruined. That was all there was to it. That bitch, Ms. Holloway, had ruined her. She had taken her body, her old identity, and now she had taken something that she had always enjoyed and made her afraid of it. Fear was something that Trevor hadn't known for... a long time. Not like this. To suddenly have it back?
Ruinous was the only word that could describe how it felt.
She turned, separating from the crowd and leaning against the building. Zoe and Athena would be coming out soon, and they would see her here. In the meantime, she could stew on her situation and plot how to get back at Holloway and McMillan.
That thought came with a hesitation. Delia's words from earlier sprang to mind. That Sarah hadn't known what would happen to us, and that she had been regretful. It took some of the anger Trinity felt and dulled it, which was uncomfortable in it's own way.
"Hey Trin," the call shook her from her thoughts. For a moment, she expected Zoe or Athena. The voice was wrong, though. Too deep. Instead, when she looked up, she saw Drake. He had the same forced casual grin that he always wore when trying to chat up a girl. "Enjoy the show?"
"It was fine," Trinity said. "Not top ten or anything, but good."
"Yeah, that's about how I'd rate it," Drake said. "Say, you gonna need a ride home tonight? I figured I'd offer, since I probably still owe you, even after the water."
"So thoughtful," Trinity said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. It felt hollow, given that she could remember having this exchange multiple times in her new past. "Unfortunately for you, I'm all set. I borrowed the old man's car to taxi Zoe and Athena around."
"What a shame. Maybe next time? I can save you some gas money," Drake said, pulling a pack of cigarettes out of his pocket and pupping one into his mouth. As he lit it up, Trinity's nose wrinkled. Drake looked at her and sighed, smoke billowing out as he did. "Ahh, right. Forgot the rule. My bad." He held the cigarette further from her. "I'll catch you later?"
"Yeah, later..." Trinity said, watching as he walked away. As easily as she could recall the playful exchanges between herself and Drake, she could remember chastising him about smoking. Pointing out how unhealthy it was...
Trevor had smoked, though. Another aspect of her former self taken from her.
A few more minutes passed before Zoe and Athena appeared. Zoe held a new shirt, bought from the merch table. Athena didn't wear anything as simple as t-shirts, but had probably bought a patch of a pin.
"Get your goodies?" Trinity asked. Her go to, apparently, but her voice sounded so empty as she said it. Zoe and Athena didn't pick up on it.
"Good to go," Zoe said as Athena nodded. They made their way to her father's car, passing Drake and waving as they did. They climbed in and she drove them home, staying mostly quiet as the other two chatted about the show. She dropped off Athena first, then Zoe, then made her way home.
She was surprised, as she entered her house, to see her father still awake. He glanced up from the TV as she walked in.
"You're still up?" She asked, tossing him the keys. He caught them easily.
"You know I have trouble sleeping when you go out to those shows of yours," her father said. As he spoke, she realized that she did know.
Trinity nodded as he stood up and approached her. He kissed the top of her head, then pulled her into a hug. "I'm going to bed now, though. I'm exhausted. See you in the morning."
"Yeah..." she said. He let her go and headed to his room, and she went to hers soon after. She didn't bother to even change her clothes before climbing into bed and falling asleep.
