Jon felt like he was going insane. From the moment he made that stupid wish, he had been expecting to change without warning, suspiciously eyeing everyone he saw... But it never came. However, far from easing his paranoia, not knowing had reinforced it even more. To the point he almost wanted a change to happen, just to be fixed on what was waiting for him.
Finally, after a night without much sleep, he decided he couldn't continue like this and prepared himself to face the problem head on.
And so, here he was, on his way to school, already regretting his decision not to stay in bed for a month. As he approached, he saw more and more students going along with him, until he finally saw the school gates.
Jon was surprised to realize the number of people he knew at school. Sure, most would barely be considered acquaintance, but each of them could have been picked by the wish. He tried to be discreet, even though he knew it wouldn't help him.
He walked fast toward his first class, even though he still had ten minutes before it started. But before he could reach it, a voice behind him stopped him.
"Jon! Wait up." It was Sarah McMillan. She normally never talked to him and Jon immediately became suspicious. "Do you know where is Karyn?" She asked.
Jon was expecting something related to his wish and was taken aback. He answered trustfully without thinking. "I don't know... I haven't seen her this morning. Why do you ask?"
"I just have something to ask her, can I have your number, then you call me later when you meet Karyn to tell me where she is."
"What? I'm not giving you my number for something like that."
"Well, How do you want me to call you otherwise? Do you want me to call you telepathically?" Sarah knew the conversation was really awkward, but she hadn't expected Jon to be so defensive, so she had to speed things up before he got away.
Meanwhile, Jon was indeed about to run away, that last sentence had pretty much confirmed his suspicions about Sarah. "I should go." He just said before turning around.
"Wait! Do you want to give me your number or do you want me to call you telepathically?!" Asked Sarah, abandoning all subtlety but having said what she needed.
Jon paused after hearing this. This was definitely too weird, maybe he should answer her. Or he could just ignore her and hope not answering wouldn't do anything...
