"Karyn..." said Jon. "It's over. Really, I swear. You can stop looking at me like that. And I'm not going to use the stone on you against your will again."
"How do I know that?" asked Karyn.
"You just saw. You made me do with David what I was trying with you, and it's not that much. Watching you kiss Sarah. Having you rub against me. I wasn't going to rape you, Karyn!"
"For all I know you could have been planning to do it a week later. I'm not going to wait a week to see if you start having sex with David."
"Karyn, I'm not going to deal with this 'guess the feelings' thing. If you want to know what I was planning, ask the stone."
"Jon, you... you..." She lowered her head. "You're right. I wish I knew what Jon had planned with me, and whether Jon would use the stone like that again."
The first answer was that Jon had planned what had already happened. He hadn't planned to do anything more with Karyn than some seductive posing and rubbing. The second answer was more obvious, or should have been--because Karyn had wished that Jon be unwilling to use the stone on her against her will. Of course he meant it when he said that. Her own wish had made that happen!
Karyn said "All right. I think this is yours." Then she handed the stone to Jon and walked away.
"Wait!" yelled Jon. "We can't break up. We weren't dating!"
"We're not breaking up. The whole thing's just too fresh in my head. I need a little time on my own. Don't worry, we'll see each other again."
"All right," said David. "Now I'm confused. First you get all close to me, and then you have this argument with Karyn that makes no sense, about her, and some kind of stone, and me. What's going on?"
Jon wasn't sure what to say, but eventually replied, "You see, David, it's like this...."
