“So I gather that this is about the wishing stone?” Corinne asked once she had checked that no one could hear them. Jonni nodded.

“I made a wish,” Jonni said bluntly, he picked at his salad. “A stupid wish.”

Corinne looked at him. “What kind of a wish? You mean like the one I made yesterday about wishing to look like Dakota?” Jonni looked up, confused.

That explains why she’s all dressed up. With the earrings and everything, he thought.

“Uh-huh, It’s kind of hard to explain.” Jonni paused, trying to figure out the best way to tell her. “Well, what if I told you that before my wish, boys and girls were different? Very, very different.”

Corinne tilted her head again.

“Different? How?”

“So, you know how boys and girls both wear dresses and makeup?” Corinne nodded but was very confused, because to her, why would it be any different?

“Well before my wish; boys didn’t wear dresses or skirts, they wore t-shirts and jeans. They had short hair and they definitely didn’t wear makeup.”

Jonni paused to watch Corinne as she reacted, but she just sat there and listened albeit with a slightly confused look on her face.

“What are jeans?” she asked finally. Jonni laughed.

“Right, I guess that they don’t exist here, because what girl would wear jeans unless they were skinny?" Jonni looked around for help, and as he did so, a group of boys on a table nearby got up to head back into the cafeteria. Jonni spotted what one of the boys was wearing so he pointed Corinne in his direction. “You see that skirt that that boy is wearing?” It was a denim short skirt. “Imagine that but longer, like, all the way down to here.” Jonni gestured to his own leg to demonstrate. “And split down the middle, kind of like trousers.”

“Eww, gross. Why would anyone want to wear something like that and hide those lovely legs?”

Jonni couldn’t help but blush as he watched Corinne eye his legs. Maybe there was a bit of romantic interest between him and Corinne after all? Too bad that Sugar was in the way. “Yeah, well, fashion’s completely different now. For both genders.”

“So you wished for boys to dress like girls and got this?” Corinne asked.

“Not exactly,” Jonni told her about his wish for something interesting.

“Gosh, you really need to be careful with how you word things with that stone. Do you really think that I want to be dressed like that bitch?”

Jonni shook his head and they both started laughing.

“So are you going to try and reverse the wish?” Corinne asked once they had both calmed down. Jonni sighed and hung his head.

“I was going to, but then I kind of worded the wish wrong and I think that I’m stuck like this.” Seeing Corinne’s look he added. “What? I was in a hurry and I wasn’t thinking properly.”

Corinne sighed.

“Ok, maybe after school we can try and come up with a way to word our wishes so that can properly fix both of our wishes.”

“Deal. We’d better head back to the others.” Jonni said agreeing to the date and looking at his watch. “We don’t have much time left.”

“Everything okay between you two?” Sugar asked, eyeing Corinne a little.

There’s definitely a hint of competition between these two, Jonni noted as he and Corinne sat back down and Sugar immediately put her arm around him again.

“Hey Jonni,” Brennalynn Coppersmith piped up, bringing Jonni out of his thoughts. “Michaela and I were thinking of going shopping after school. There’s a sale going on at Maddie's. Would you like to join us? It would help take your mind off things.”

“Um…” Jonni looked at Corinne; he had just made plans with her to help fix his wish.

“Well, Jonni and I were planning on hanging out at my place after school.” Sugar interjected. “But, if you want to hang out at the mall with your boyfriends, then be my guest. Maybe you can find something special to wear,” she added with a grin. Brennalynn and Michaela giggled.

“Corinne? Want to join us? I’m sure that you’ll be able to find something as awesome as that ensemble that you’ve got on now. You always do.”

Corinne shook her head.

“Ugh, no thanks.”

I guess that because of her wish, everyone thinks that’s she’s always dressed that way, but inside, she’s still a tomboy. Or whatever it’s called now in this world.

“And then I’ll pick you up after and you can spend the night at my place,” Sugar added.

Well, this is definitely happening. “That sounds good! I could use something to get my mind off of this.”
