Jon paused for a moment, wanting to see who was at the door, and a feeling of dread washed over him when he saw that it was Karyn.
"Oh, hi Zoe. Is Jon around?" she asked.
"Karyn! Get out of here!" Jon yelled.
But it was too late. And right before his eyes, Jon watched his best friend turn into a Goth girl.
"Oh, Karyn," Jon whispered to himself, in dismay. He watched Zoe and Karyn strike up a conversation with each other and saw his chance to make a break for his bedroom. With the stone, he could easily fix things.
Unfortunately, Zoe saw what her brother was doing and told Karyn to go after him. She'd do it herself, but she didn't want to risk dropping the salt shaker during the pursuit.
Jon sprinted up the stairs and darted towards his bedroom, quickly opening the door and then slamming it shut. After he locked the door, he heard someone banging on it, yelling for him to open up. "Open up this fucking door!" It was Karyn. It pained Jon to see and hear her like this. But as soon as he used the stone ...
Jon's eyes went wide. Where did he put the stone? He remembered setting it down somewhere, but he couldn't remember where. He looked around the room. It would have been easier if there weren't all of those magic items lying around, the magic items he wished for with the stone.
"Where is it?" Jon asked aloud, getting frustrated. The one thing he needed to fix this situation and he couldn't find it!
The pounding continued, then stopped. Jon knew what that meant. Karyn didn't give up. Zoe was probably outside in the hall with her. With the magic salt in her possession, Zoe would have no trouble getting inside his bedroom.
He doubled his efforts. He scanned the room, quickly, but carefully. There was a box full of colored rings, a small vial of pink liquid, a small compact of makeup, a silver chain necklace, a pocket watch, another ring, a gold bracelet, a pair of wire-frame glasses, an oil lamp ... but there was no stone!
Where could it be?
