"I screwed up, didn't I?"
"I think you did, Jon," said Karyn. "Now you're a girl superhero. It's a good thing I didn't put a 'normal form' on that or you'd be a girl even in normal form."
"I don't want to be a girl superhero," said Jon. "Besides, if we're going to have powers, why can't we do things like stop bullets?"
"Because it's no fun that way?" replied Karyn.
"But this is real life! What if we have to fight someone with bullets or die? It might be less fun to be immune to bullets, but it's more fun to stay alive! I wish that I were a male superhero who's immune to bullets, and I wish I knew if that wish worked."
Jon grimaced. "It didn't work," he said. "I'd be reversing the wish to become a different superhero than the one on the paper. Let me try something else. I wish that I'll get a powerup, which will make me immune to bullets and let me be a guy as a superhero."
A loud crackling sound filled the air. A hole opened in the very air itself. Through it Jon and Karyn could smell a forest and see tropical vegetation. The sunlight was slightly orange. Several huts stood nearby, with natives who looked human but wore unfamiliar fabrics and decorations. In the distance an airplane flew overhead but it had squarish wings and bore a logo that neither of them recognized. And in one place on the ground was blood, and clumps of hair, and footprints too large to be a human's....
Jon looked at Karyn. "Did I screw up again?" he asked.
"I think if you want your powerup, you have to quest for it."
"In there?" said Jon.
"Have you ever heard of a character like these just finding a powerup? We have to go in and fight monsters and kill a boss to get it."
"But it's dangerous! And I'll be a girl!"
Karyn shrugged.
"Fine," said Jon. "Elemental Power GO!" Jon spun around, went naked for a second, and grew breasts. Finally, Jon stood there as a cute girl in a schoolgirl uniform, carrying the same sword and energy shield as depicted in Karyn's picture.
"Ooh," said Karyn. "All the guys will be all over you, Jennifer."
"That's the problem! And I'm still Jon."
"People will think you're nuts if you say that. You'd better call yourself Jennifer or something like it as long as you're in this form."
Then Karyn shouted her own words, transforming, and Karyn and Jennifer leaped through the portal to enter the town that was the starting point for their quest....
