Jon reached into his pocket and pulled out a quarter. "Heads - I'll stand. Tails - you'll stand." He flipped the coin and it landed on the floor as tails.
Karyn/Athena slumped.
"Come on," Jon said. "My mom walked into the kitchen." He quickly walked out of the living room and then into the kitchen, then turned around and looked for Athena. "Athena?"
Karyn/Athena slowly walked into the kitchen.
"There's nothing to worry about. It'll all work out," Jon said. "Now just stand next to her."
"What are you two talking about?" Zoe/Jane asked.
Karyn/Athena stood right next to Zoe/Jane. "Okay, get it over with," she said.
"Get what over with?" Zoe/Jane asked.
Jon pressed the button and suddenly Zoe/Jane, Karyn/Athena and Jon were replaced by Zoe, Jane/Karyn and Athena/Jon. What Jon didn't know was that Karyn was standing right next to him the whole time, but everyone (including herself) thought that she was Athena.
"Jon?" Zoe asked Athena/Jon. "What the fuck is going on? I ... I was Mom!" Then she looked around. "Where is Mom?"
Athena/Jon looked down at himself. Jon was the one that pressed the button, so he noticed all the changes, including the one to himself. He still had all his own clothing, but he had Athena's body! When he looked at the others, he saw that Zoe was back to normal, but his mother was dressed just like Karyn. Why the hell was she dressed like Karyn? Could it be that she was already affected by the empathy device? Jon worked it out in his head and figured that Karyn must have thought she was Athena, just like he had.
"Karyn?" Athena/Jon asked.
His mother turned towards him. "Jon ..."
