Jon reached into his pocket and pulled out a quarter. "Heads - I'll stand. Tails - you'll stand." He flipped the coin and it landed on the floor as heads.
Karyn/Athena sighed with relief.
"Come on," Jon said. "My mom walked into the kitchen." He quickly walked out of the living room and then into the kitchen, then stood right next to his mom, who was actually Zoe.
"Do you need something, Jon?" Zoe/Jane asked, confused as to why Jon was standing right next to her.
"Okay, do it," Jon said.
"Do what?" Zoe/Jane asked.
Karyn/Athena pressed the button and suddenly Zoe/Jane and Jon were replaced by Zoe and Jane/Jon.
"Athena?" Zoe asked. "What the fuck is going on? I ... I was my mother!" Then she looked around. "Where is my mother?"
Karyn/Athena pointed and Zoe looked in that direction, but all she saw was her stupid brother Jon. "That's not my mom, Athena. That's Jon."
Karyn/Athena looked at Zoe's mother, who was now dressed as Jon. It was just as Jon predicted would happen. But did he still remember the device and everything that it had changed? "Jon?" she asked, walking towards him. "Do you know what this is and what it did?" she asked, holding out the empathy device.
