The bell rang and the girls plus Jon (who thought he was a girl) got up from the table. As they left, they passed the table Karyn had been sitting at.
"Hey, what's this?" Vicky said, pointing to the remote that sat on the table.
"Looks like some kind of, like, nerd calculator or some junk," Jon said. He picked it up and looked at it.
"It doesn't look like a calculator to me," Sarah said.
"Yeah," Vicky said, "Maybe it's one of those dorky video games." The three of them giggled at that. Jon moved his now manicured hand over the device, noticing a timer counting down. For some reason, she thought she should know what that meant.
Meanwhile, Karyn had just sat down in her next class, next to the empty seat Jon would be sitting in if he wasn't currently Brooke. Suddenly, she realized her mistake. She jumped up quickly and ran back to the cafeteria.
"I wonder what this big red button does?" Jon asked.
"Maybe it'll make you, like, a genius or something," Vicky said.
"Ick," Jon replied, "Geniuses have such bad skin. I think I'll pass." He pointed the antenna away from himself. Just then, Karyn came running in.
"Jon, stop!"
"What the hell?" Sarah said.
"Did you just call me Jon?" Jon asked, cocking a hip. "Is that some sort of sick fantasy of yours? God, you are, like, such a lez." The girls giggled, and Karyn looked genuinely hurt.
"Listen, B-B-Brooke," It was hard for Karyn to call Jon that, "That thing is dangerous, you should give it back."
Frankly, Karyn didn't know if it was dangerous or not. She wasn't sure if it would even work with the timer counting down, but she didn't want to find out what might happen if it did work.
"Ya right. I bet this is, like, some kind of dumb toy. You just think you're, like, little miss genius or something and, like, I'll break your favorite toy. Well, tough." And with that, Jon's pink painted finger came down on the button, with the antenna pointed right at Karyn.
