Jon suddenly felt dizzy, and then he realized he had two sets of memories. His original memories, since he had heard the wish and his original memories weren't wiped out, and new memories of being raised by a strict mother who had a strong sense of moral values.
He looked at himself and Pete, but contrary to his fears, they weren't wearing women's clothes. Of course, if they had been raised exactly like Sally would be, they'd not only be girls in women's clothes, they'd also be named Sally.
Jon ran after the woman, followed by Pete. She was pregnant and walking around with a four year old, so it wasn't hard to catch up.
It was easy to fall into the new pattern. Jon said to the woman, "Please, miss, give me my rock back."
"What the hell are you talking about?"
"My rock. You stole it from me and it's wrong to steal. If you don't give it back, I'm going to call the police."
"That thing? It's just a piece of stone! I don't see why you want it."
"I'm terribly sorry, Miss, but it is mine and if you took it from me you're a thief. It's wrong to steal things from other people! Wouldn't you raise your own daughter to know that?"
"Get the hell away from me, you rude boys!"
"We're not rude," said Pete. He reached for the woman's arm and gripped tightly. "Now, Jon," he said. "We have to get your property back."
"Didn't your parents raise you not to hurt a pregnant woman?" said the woman.
"My parents raised me," said Pete, "to not allow myself or others to be taken advantage of." He blinked. That hadn't been true before.
Jon reached into the woman's bag and took out the stone. "I wish that a policeman saw you take my stone and you will be tried, found guilty, and serve a full sentence for petty theft for robbing me, but after that the police will forget about the stone."
Suddenly handcuffs materialized on the woman's hands and a police officer, who wasn't there a moment ago, began to lead her off.
"Now," said Jon, holding the stone....
