Jon, having figured that his wish hadn’t done anything, at least anything drastic, had settled down and turned on a video game.
He was lying on his bed mashing buttons on his controller when he heard someone come into his room. Pausing the game, and feeling curious, Jon turned his attention to his doorway to find a strange woman standing there. Jon had the odd feeling that she was studying him for some reason, but shrugged it off.
“Oh, hello dear,” the woman said stepping into Jon’s room, without asking for his permission. “My name is Rebecca Fine, I’m you’re new cleaning lady.” Rebecca offered out her hand.
Jon eyed Rebecca suspiciously, he glanced quickly to where he had hidden the stone before getting up and crossing over to her and shaking her hand.
“Your mother has just been telling me all about you, and I thought that I’d better come up and introduce myself, especially if we’re going to be seeing each other more often.”
“Why?” Jon asked bluntly. Truthfully, he had a right to be suspicious, and while he wasn’t sure yet if his accidental wish had anything to do with the new cleaner, their old one certainly wasn’t chatty. At least not to him or Zoe, Their old cleaner Mrs Watson would often chat with his mom but when it came to cleaning their rooms, Jon and Zoe usually just tried to keep out of the way.
“Do you mind if we sat down?” Rebecca asked, gesturing towards the bed while taking in Jon’s room and making mental notes of every little detail.
“Um, sure,” Jon replied a little hesitantly.
As they sat down, Rebecca studied Jon. He was the typical average male teenager…not disruptive…the sort of kid that a parent wouldn’t worry about much when she had two other kids who were more of a handful.
