It took a while for my eyes to adjust to the darkness, but I finally could make out a long hallway lined with dead torches. At the far end was some kind of statue, vaguely humanoid. As I started walking down the hall, the torches lit up automatically and flooded the temple with light.
I could now see great murals painted on the walls, though unfortunately these were mostly worn away from age. They seemed to depict some kind of king, a naked man with the head of a wolf, holding onto leashes of strange monstrous creatures. The images were lined with runes, the same Greek/Chinese-y language as my collar. The statue at the end was enormous, but greatly damaged with the whole upper body missing, though I could tell that it was the same character as in the painting.
"Servant of Ludaeth..." a horrible, breathy voice said from behind me, sending a chill through my body.
I turned around to see a shadowy wraith, a pale figure in a black robe who hovered three feet above the ground. "W-What do you want?" I asked, my voice trembling. Even at level 7. I was pretty sure I couldn't fight this guy off if he attacked.
"I am but a conduit," the wraith replied. "Lord Ludaeth has called you to preform a noble deed in His service." He swept a hand with wickedly sharp fingertips about to illustrate the aged surroundings, "His temple has been abandoned, His form stolen by pirates long ago, and His followers have lost their faith." The wraith spat in disgust, the saliva hissing like acid on the ground. "Your task shall be to rejoin the halves of His statue and return His power to this world. Lord Ludaeth knows you are ill suited to preform this task as you are, and will allow you to summon forth the form of one of his prized pets to assist you." The wraith pointed out the monsters on the walls. "...For a servant such as yourself, I would recommend the succubus," the wraith added.
This is the quest, I realized, trying to understand it all. I was being sent to find the other half of the statue, and it seemed that this God 'Ludaeth' was going to send one of His pets to help me. I glanced around at the images, trying to pick out the best pet. Looking back at the wraith, I mumbled my response.
