"Of-- of course I can fix it," said Jon. "Karyn, give me the stone. Please."
"I-- I don't know. I don't, like, know anything. All I know is that like, you've been there for me so you must...."
Jon took the stone from Karyn's unresisting hand and thought. There had to be some way to fix this. Right? Her brain matched her body, but that doesn't have to mean she's stupid. It's not as if there was some law about what kind of brain goes with what kind of body.
"Okay," said Jon. "I think I figured it out. I wish that Sarah McMillan is smart, and so Karyn, with a body like her, is as smart as her. Talk to me, Karyn," said Jon. "Without using the word 'like'."
"Jon... yeah. I think you did it. I'm never taking your stone again. I wonder what you did to Sarah, though."
"Nothing harmful," said Jon. "They don't really kick out cheerleaders for being smart, and I wished for smart, not for dorky. Maybe it'll even do her some good."
"You wished for smart, not dorky," said Karyn. "You also wished for smart, not friendly. She can cause a lot of trouble if she's smart and still Sarah...."
