The die landed on Ranma 1/2.
Jon looked at Karyn, who looked back at Jon. "I don't feel any different." said Jon. "Do you?"
"No." she replied. "I don't get it. The die is supposed to change us. It landed on Ranma 1/2. What's it supposed to do?"
There was a pause. "I don't know." said Jon. "I just wrote that on the die at random. I wasn't really thinking about it."
Both Jon and Karyn sat for a while, pondering what they knew of Ranma 1/2. Ranma 1/2 was an anime series (and also a manga) created by Rumiko Takahashi. It was a martial arts comedy whose feature character, Ranma Saotome, was knocked into one of the cursed springs of Jusenkyo while training with his father Genma in China. Ranma landed in Nyannichuan, the Spring of Drowned Girl. According to what the Jusenkyo Guide referred to as a 'very tragic legend', a girl drowned in that spring 1500 years ago, and ever since then, whoever falls into the spring turns into a girl when doused with cold water. Hot water reverses the effect...but cold water will turn the victim back into the 'cursed' form. The result being that Ranma is a boy half the time, and a girl half the time.
Ranma's father Genma, meanwhile, fell into another cursed spring, the Spring of Drowned Panda, which means he turns into a panda whenever he's doused with cold water. Ranma's school acquaintance and rival Ryoga Hibiki also fell into a cursed spring, his being the Spring of Drowned Pig. Ranma and Genma were followed back to Japan by the Chinese Amazon Shampoo and her would-be lover Mousse. They too were cursed, Shampoo by the Spring of Drowned Cat and Mousse by the Spring of Drowned Duck. As the series progressed further, a number of other characters showed up with even stranger curses.
"So, what does that mean?" Karyn asked. "Does this mean we all have Jusenkyo curses for the next 24 hours?"
Jon had an idea. He rushed to the bathroom, and filled a glass with cold water. He then rushed back into the room, and dumped the glass on himself.
Instantly, Jon changed. His features and figure changed into that of a girl. She looked like a female version of Jon. Her hairstyle was the same as it had been before, but she now had some generous C-cup breasts.
"Okay." she said. "Now to try hot water." She rushed back to the bathroom, and filled the glass with hot water. Then she returned to Karyn, and dumped the hot water on herself. Instantly, Jon returned to his male form.
"You've got Ranma's curse." Karyn said. "What about me?"
"Stay right here." Jon rushed back to the bathroom, filled the glass with cold water, and returned. He then doused Karyn with the glass.
"I'm wet!" Karyn replied. Karyn looked down at herself, and realized that getting wet was all that had happened. She had not changed at all.
"I'm still myself." she said. "It looks like not everyone is affected by this die after all."
"Maybe it only gives people Ranma's curse." Jon said. "It's not working on you because you were already a girl."
"So only the guys are affected?" asked Karyn.
"Maybe." said Jon. "I'm not sure."
Karyn wasn't sure what Jon meant by that. "We don't have a lot of time to experiment, Jon. We have to hurry or we'll be late for school."
Jon heard Karyn, but he was still standing there pondering what had happened. He wondered just how the die had affected everyone else.
